Even in Massachusetts, A GOP Surge

Even in Massachusetts, A GOP Surge

"Massachusetts Republican" -- once an oxymoron, now a cliché? After Scott Brown's election, a party once near extinction now has crowded primaries.

State Rep. Jeff Perry (Sandwich) stands out from the crowd, running for Massachusetts's 10th congressional district: WBUR calls the race Perry's to lose. Center-left blog FiveThirtyEight.com lays out how Republicans just might "captur[e] the Cape." Perry's qualified "contender" in the NRCC's Young Guns candidate program for House races, by raising more than $400,000 -- with 82 cents of every dollar coming from the district -- recently opened his third campaign office in Quincy.

He's done it by playing by the book -- his book, My GOP, which he self-published at the low point of national Republicanism in 2009. Times then seemed especially dismal for the party, but Perry believes and lives his subtitle: "to get back to the principles of Ronald Reagan." Perry knows, as Reagan knew, that there is no reason to vote for Republicans who don't believe in their own principles, so each chapter helpfully describes a political principle -- and how it's being ignored on Beacon Hill. My GOP educates, and with wit. One chapter title asks of Beacon Hill: "What part of illegal do they not understand?" Jeff Perry opposes all taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants. One of only two Republicans statewide to vote against RomneyCare, Perry explains that it is unconstitutional to force people to buy insurance. A Virginia federal judge recently allowed an important lawsuit which argues exactly that to proceed against ObamaCare.

Perry, like Reagan before him, grounds his politics in liberty. Reagan carried Massachusetts twice. Perry thinks Reagan Democrats will carry him to Washington. The GOP's problem, as he explains via phone, is branding. There's no reason for people who, like Perry, grew up in Democratic households to pull another lever if Republicans offer Democrat-lite.

Speaking of Democrat-lite, Perry will surely dispatch former Treasurer Joe Malone in the September primary. Malone, running as a social liberal and fiscal conservative, is the former, but not the latter. Malone wasn't so fiscally conservative with investors' money, or with taxpayers'.

Mass. RNC members Kaufman, Dow endorse Perry

Mass. Republican National Committee Members Endorse Perry for Congress
Ron Kaufman and Jody Dow lend their support to Perry's campaign

SANDWICH – The Jeff Perry for Congress campaign picked up two high-profile endorsements today as the Republican National Committeeman and Republican National Committeewoman for Massachusetts both officially announced their support for Jeff Perry in the 10th Congressional District.

The announcement of support by Hon. Ron Kaufman and Hon. Jody Dow is the latest in a series of endorsements for Jeff Perry by well-known Republicans, including United States Senator Scott Brown and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

"I’m proud to support Jeff Perry's campaign to be the next congressman from Massachusetts' 10th District," said Kaufman. "As Republican National Committeeman for Massachusetts, I witness firsthand the mess our federal government is in due to the Democrats' control of Congress. We need to continue what we started last January with Scott Brown's election and send another independent, reform-minded Republican to Washington to help stem the tide and bring some much needed fiscal restraint to Congress. Having supported Jeff for the past decade as he represented his constituents on Beacon Hill, I have no doubt he'll be an effective and responsible voice for all the people from my hometown of Quincy down to the tip of Cape Cod if elected to Congress."

Ron Kaufman, Republican National Committeeman, has served as an advisor over the last 25 years to Republican presidents, governors, members of Congress and a host of elected and appointed officials at every level of government. Starting his career in national politics in 1978 with the campaign for President of George H.W. Bush, Ron has held major political posts in the White House and in the Republican party.

Jody Dow, Republican National Committeewoman, is the Vice Chairman of the Northeast Region of the Republican National Committee. She is President of the Brookline Women's Republican Club, and has also served as a Brookline Town Meeting Member and was the Chairman of the Brookline Planning Board.

"I am honored and humbled to receive the support of two of our state's most hard-working and well-known Republican political figures," said Perry. "I admire Ron and Jody greatly and I have tremendous respect for them as leaders of our party. I appreciate all that they do for Republicans across the state, and I appreciate their support of my campaign here in the 10th Congressional District."

Rep. Humason Endorses Perry for Congress

Rep. Humason Endorses Perry for Congress
Hosts Reception in Westfield for Perry Campaign

Don Humason, Westfield's state representative, today endorsed the candidacy of Jeff Perry for Congress in the 10th Massachusetts District.

"I have known Jeff Perry since we first came into the Massachusetts House of Representatives together in 2003. We immediately became close friends and have worked side by side ever since," Humason said. "I am proud to call Jeff my friend and colleague and am very pleased to throw my support behind him in his bid for U.S. Congress in the 10th District."

Citing the success of Scott Brown's populist campaign for U.S. Senate earlier this year and the similarities between Brown and Perry, Humason went on to say the time is right to elect another Republican to serve in the Bay State's delegation to Washington.

"I have never met a person of more integrity and character than Jeff," Humason said. "He is honest and refreshingly straight-forward. He shares the same values and core convictions with which many of us in Massachusetts were raised. Jeff is a fierce advocate for his district, a strong supporter of the Constitution, an ardent fiscal conservative, a vocal opponent of illegal immigration, a believer in the 2nd Amendment, and a clear voice for smaller, more responsive government that is answerable to the people. Jeff has been many things: a father, grandfather, soldier, police officer, business owner, and legislator. He will make us all proud as the next Congressman from the 10th District."

Humason and his wife will be hosting a private fundraising reception in their Westfield home on Saturday, August 28.

"Representative Don Humason and I have a long history of friendship and working together on Beacon Hill. I enjoy having this strong Westfield – Sandwich connection," Perry said. "I welcome Don’s endorsement and thank him for his friendship, faith in my candidacy, and support of this exciting campaign."

Perry comments on unemployment, President's vacation

Statement of Jeff Perry on nationwide unemployment and the President's vacation

"As families across the country struggle to escape the effects of a nine-month high in unemployment claims, and as our illegal immigration problems continue to worsen, President Obama has chosen to get away from it all on a week-long vacation. It's time for Washington to wake up and deal with the real problems facing us by lowering taxes, eliminating the burdens on small businesses, and cutting government spending to reduce the crippling size of our national debt."
