Jeff Perry comments on President Obama's remarks

By Jeff Perry, on Aug 31, 2010

Jeff Perry, Republican candidate for Congress in the Massachusetts Tenth Congressional District, issued the following statement on remarks delivered by President Obama from the Oval Office this evening:

"As an American, I share our President's desire to help millions of unemployed citizens get back to work. But President Obama's call to 'turn the page' on a decade of foreign conflict and to focus instead on domestic issues is a false choice. America's future depends on finding success on both fronts. Our national security relies equally on having a robust economy and successfully resolving the extreme perils in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other regions where freedom remains under attack. And wherever our troops remain in harm's way, they deserve adequate resources and a clearly-defined mission and rules of engagement to support them."

Rep. Susan Williams Gifford endorses Jeff Perry for Congress
Will host fundraiser in Buzzard's Bay on September 20th

Wareham – Representative Susan Williams Gifford (R-Wareham) announced today that she has formally endorsed State Representative Jeff Perry (R-Sandwich) for his bid for Congress in the 10th Congressional District.

"I have known Jeff Perry since we were both elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2002," said Gifford. "We immediately became friends and have worked side by side ever since, including sharing the representation of the town of Bourne. I am very pleased to support Jeff in his bid for U.S. Congress and hope to see a big crowd on September 20th."

A thirteen-year resident of Wareham, Susan Williams Gifford is a dedicated public servant. She served as a Wareham selectwoman for three years, and she has served constituents of the 2nd Plymouth District, including the towns of Bourne, Carver, and Wareham, since being elected to the House of Representatives in November, 2002. Educated in business administration, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University.

"I have enjoyed serving in the House of Representatives with Sue Gifford, and I greatly appreciate her support of my campaign," said Perry. "I've known Sue since we were both elected to the Legislature in 2002, and I have always respected her terrific advocacy for the people she represents. We also share a common conservative philosophy on issues like the need for lower taxes and the problem of irresponsible government spending. I have always valued Sue's friendship as we have worked together on matters that are important to people on Cape Cod, and I'm grateful for her endorsement in this race."

Jeff Perry: Proud of our Community

By Jeff Perry, on Aug 30, 2010

Proud of our Community
By Rep. Jeff Perry

This past Saturday, my wife and I attended the Cape Cod Cares for the Troops run/walk event in Buzzards Bay.  While many of us attend such events to support our brave men and women serving currently, military families, our veterans and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, we must also stop and take a moment and appreciate what a wonderful community of people we live in.

As we walked around the event talking to people before the ceremony begun, we saw the people most impacted by the War on Terror, including Gold and Blue Star parents, veterans, and families of those currently overseas.  More than that, there were the people totally unconnected to the military.  So many people in our community gave up their Saturday and fought the traffic to support our troops on a Saturday morning.   This impressed me and made me feel a tremendous sense of pride in our community.

Also this week, our last combat troops left Iraq.  This is indeed progress, but with a heavy price.  As a candidate for Congress, I am often asked about my views on the War on Terror.  First and foremost, I will support the President as Commander in Chief and pledge to unconditionally support our men and women in uniform.

Congress should ask the tough and necessary questions of the President and the agencies he oversees, but not attempt to interfere with the mission of protecting our home land or supporting our military commanders.  We must have a better articulated plan for victory in Afghanistan, and one which does not foreshadow a withdrawal date.  Our troops must also have the rules of engagement which allow for self-protection and the ability to complete a defined mission.

A working and aggressive intelligence plan is our best and first line of defense.  I believe America must increase the resources of our human intelligence capabilities and integrate technical and human sources.

I strongly believe as a Nation we always must recognize the sacrifice of all of our veterans, military members and their families.  I am also proud that over the last eight years I have been on Beacon Hill, the Legislature has done some great things supporting Massachusetts service members, including the Welcome Home Bill.  The manner in which we treat our veterans is a direct message of support to our current and future service members.

Service members, both past and present, and their families deserve high-quality health care. We must always remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice; their families must be assured meaningful financial assistance.  It is the solemn duty we owe, and honor we give to those who bravely served so that we all may be free.

Returning veterans must also have access to education benefits, job training, and a wide variety of employment options.  I will support and push for a bipartisan expansion of the GI Bill for private colleges and education benefits.  In addition, I will encourage private businesses to expand their outreach to the veteran community, especially disabled veterans.  Of course this must be a partnership with the many local and private veteran groups already doing such great work.  We do many great things as a government to support our service members, but there is room for improvement.

While wars and politics can often spark protests and divisive tones in some communities, I am proud to be part of a community that recognizes our troops, families and veterans.  They all deserve nothing less that our unconditional support.

Jones Commends Perry on Voting Record
Has 99% voting record over the eight years in House of Representatives

BOSTON—House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. today offered praise to Representative Jeffrey D. Perry (R-Sandwich) for finishing off the 2009-2010 legislative session with an impressive voting record.

The Sandwich Republican participated in nearly every roll call vote taken this session, casting his vote in 506 of the 513 roll call votes held this year. Below is a summary of Perry’s voting record over the 4 terms he has served:

          2009-2010    98.64%    506 of 513
          2007-2008    97.53%    592 of 607
          2005-2206    99.45%    910 of 915
          2003-2004    100.00%   890 of 890

"Jeff is and always has been a very committed legislator," said Representative Jones. "He's always actively engaged in the debate, asking thoughtful questions and making persuasive arguments. The people of the 5th Barnstable District should take great pride in the fact that their legislator is constantly fighting on Beacon Hill for their best interest."

Though full formal sessions for the 2009-2010 legislative session have concluded, Representative Perry continues to work diligently on behalf of the people in the 5th Barnstable District at the State House and closer to home in his district office. "Representing the 5th Barnstable District has been a privilege and an honor," said Representative Perry. "My time in the great General Court is coming to an end, and I am proud to have fought for lower taxes, a more efficient state government and reduced spending."

Representative Perry is the Ranking Republican on the Committees on Education and Public Safety & Homeland Security. He also serves as a member on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Committee on State Administration.

Perry to host end of summer lobster and clambake in Sandwich
Event caps off busy week of campaigning and fundraising success

SANDWICH – Jeff Perry, candidate for Congress, is wrapping up a busy week of campaigning with a lobster and clambake in Sandwich this Sunday.

The end of summer lobster and clambake will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 29th at the Sandwich American Legion on Main Street. All are welcome to attend. In addition to the lobster and steamers meal, hot dogs will be available. A donation of $50 per person is respectfully requested for a lobster meal.

This was a busy week for Perry's campaign, highlighted by a major fundraising initiative that shattered expectations. The initiative, dubbed a "5K Challenge" by the campaign, encouraged donors to contribute money online toward a goal of raising $5,000 for Perry on Wednesday. Not only did the challenge work, it far exceeded expectations as the campaign netted about $8,250 in online contributions that day.

"I appreciate the generosity of all the people who participated in our '5K Challenge' online," said Perry. "Our campaign needs access to resources in order to win, and the strength of our fundraising and grassroots efforts shows we have the momentum we need to be successful."

The campaign also announced several high-profile endorsements this week, including Massachusetts Republican National Committeeman Ron Kaufman, Massachusetts Republican National Committeewoman Jody Dow, and State Representative Donald Humason.

"I appreciate the support of everyone who has endorsed me, including Senator Brown and Governor Romney," said Perry. "With only a few weeks left until the primary, I think it's essential that our campaign is able to demonstrate strength."
